Non-toxic pest control in Perth
Perth's warm climate keeps pest activity high for much of the year, which means many households are weighing up ongoing pest control against the amount of chemical use they're comfortable with. Non-toxic options mean that trade-off doesn't have to mean leaving a pest problem untreated.
Over 30 years treating Perth homes
Some households need or want to limit chemical use around the home, whether that's for young children, pets, pregnancy, allergies, or personal preference. Elite Pest Control offers non-toxic and low-chemical treatment options across most pest and termite services, including the Exterra Baiting System and Homeguard physical barriers, without giving up effectiveness.
What non-toxic pest control means
Non-toxic pest control isn't a single product, it's a set of approaches used instead of, or alongside, conventional chemical treatment:
-
Baiting systems
Bait is carried back to the nest or colony by the pest itself, targeting the source with a smaller overall chemical footprint than broad spraying.
-
Physical barriers and exclusion
Mesh barriers, sealing entry points, and structural fixes stop pests getting in without chemical treatment at all.
-
Monitoring stations
Used for termites and some other pests, monitoring stations detect activity early and are non-invasive, with no odour.
-
Targeted, low-toxicity products
Where chemical treatment is needed, low-toxicity products can be used in place of broader-spectrum options, particularly around sleeping and living areas.
The Exterra Baiting System
Exterra is a non-chemical, science-based baiting programme for termite elimination, working with termite feeding behaviour to eliminate the whole colony rather than just the termites active at the time of treatment. It's a licensed product and one of the most established non-toxic termite treatments available.
Installation begins in the ground, with bait stations placed around the perimeter of the property. The stations can also be used where a property is surrounded by concrete. Each station contains a material termites feed on, with termite bait added once activity is confirmed. As termites feed on the bait and carry it back to the colony, the colony is gradually eliminated. The bait itself is non-toxic to humans and pets.
Exterra treatment is covered by a warranty through Enstyex Pty Ltd, maintained through annual inspections and a yearly renewal program.
Homeguard physical barriers
Homeguard is a physical barrier system installed either during construction or to an existing property, and comes in two main forms:
Homeguard TMB, for new construction, is a single-layer polymer impregnated with the termiticide Biflex, installed under the slab before it's poured. It can also be used behind retaining walls, and replaces the standard black moisture membrane. It's classified as non-hazardous and is a HIA GreenSmart Partner product.
Homeguard Blue, for existing properties, is installed to parapet walls or the exterior perimeter of the building. It's an accredited, cost-effective barrier against the economically significant subterranean termite species found in Australia, and is also classified as non-hazardous and a HIA GreenSmart Partner product.
Both Homeguard TMB and Homeguard Blue carry a manufacturer warranty of up to 50 years.
Pricing
Non-toxic and low-chemical options are available across most services at the standard treatment price. Ask about the right approach for your household when booking, and any specific requirements can be factored into the quote.

Questions we get asked
Baiting and physical barrier methods are effective for many common pests and termites, though the right approach depends on the pest and how established the problem is. A technician can advise on the most effective non-toxic option for your specific situation.
Low-chemical and non-toxic options are commonly requested for households with pregnant occupants. Let the technician know when booking so the treatment plan can be adjusted.
Non-toxic and low-chemical options are generally available at the same price as standard treatment. Ask when booking if a specific method affects pricing for your job.
Yes. Termite monitoring stations and physical barriers like Homeguard are both non-toxic approaches, and can be used instead of, or alongside, chemical soil treatment depending on the level of protection your property needs.
Exterra is a non-chemical termite baiting programme that works by eliminating the whole colony, not just visible termites. Bait stations are installed around the property, and once termites feed on the bait, it's carried back to the colony and gradually eliminates it. Treatment is covered by warranty through Enstyex Pty Ltd, maintained through annual inspections.
